The Week So Far: March 24

Covid cases jumping, oil companies profiting, and superheroes are popular - this week isn't full of surprises.

Covid 19 cases could jump again

In the US, Covid cases might increase. Dr. Fauci pointed to an increase in Europe attributed to an Omicron subtype as a precursor of what will occur in the United States. The good news is that Fauci does not believe that the jump will result in a "surge." Meanwhile, across the country, hospitalizations and deaths are still declining.

Oil is a moneymaker

Saudi Aramco's profits more than doubled. The Saudi oil company made $110 billion in net income in 2021 as a result of an increase in energy prices. That windfall will be used to diversify the kingdom's economy away from oil. The Saudi sovereign wealth fund, which is already a significant player in global financial markets, plans to invest another $10 billion on the NYSE and NASDAQ this year, according to the WSJ.

DC hero is topping the box office

The Batman is ruling supreme at the box office. For the third week running, The Dark Knight Rises held on to the No. 1 position and crossed $300 million in North American ticket sales (becoming only the second film of the epidemic to do so). Sandra Bullock and Channing Tatum's project, The Lost City, has a chance of displacing The Batman next weekend even if only due to the good looks of the leads.
