The Week So Far: April 6

The climate is changing, Trump's Truth Social plummets, and Judge Brown Jackson's confirmation is imminent.

Now or Never for Climate Change

The world is on the verge of a global catastrophe if temperatures rise by more than 1.5 degrees Celsius, according to a UN paper published yesterday.

If we don't start reducing greenhouse gas emissions and investing in carbon capture technology soon, we will run out of time. We'll have to reach peak emissions by 2025 and then go skiing down a Black Diamond after that to keep things under control.

Rise and Fall of Social Media Companies

The stock of Digital World Acquisition Corp., the SPAC that merged with former President Trump's social network Truth Social, has dropped 10% for its seventh consecutive day.

Two top executives from Truth Social have resigned, downloads have fallen 95% from their peak, and Elon Musk has recently joined rival Twitter.

The Senate is Busy

After two more Republicans, Sens. Lisa Murkowski and Mitt Romney, pledged their support for her this week, Ketanji Brown Jackson's appointment to the Supreme Court appears assured.

She'll almost certainly be confirmed by the end of the week. Meanwhile, a group of senators from both sides of the aisle agreed to a $10 billion Covid package that would fund vaccines, therapies, and other pandemic measures.
