Over five million people became millionaires last year, and that number is growing. According to Credit Suisse's wealth report, approximately half of those nouveaux riches are from the United States. This means that last year was one of the biggest years for growth in millionaire numbers for “any country in any year this century.” The top 1%'s share of the world's wealth rose globally too, by nearly 46%.

After Sali Hafiz of Lebanon held up a bank, this is what she said to Reuters. Hafiz brandished a gun — later determined to be a toy — and poured dilute gasoline on a teller until they gave Hafiz $13,000 out of her own account to pay for her sister's cancer treatment. During Lebanon's current economic crunch, where many have had their funds frozen, Hafiz and other "bank robbers" like her are being praised as heroes.
