The third wheel is the one that takes the most strain. Married couples aged 25 to 34 had a median net worth of nearly 9x that of single individuals in 2019, compared to 4x more in 2010, according to data from the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis. Recent economic trends, such as financial stress caused by the pandemic and an increase in house prices, are widening this gap—because couples may pool financial resources and absorb price increases more readily than singletons, according to The Wall Street Journal.

“The system is approaching a tipping point.”

As a result of rapidly drying Colorado River waters, US officials declared fresh water reductions for two US states—Nevada and Arizona—as well as Mexico, due to a parched Colorado River. The Colorado River basin has been suffering from drought for the past 23 years, jeopardizing the supply of water and hydropower to 40 million people who rely on it.
